A Contest

July 17, 2010

Bought my book? Not sure what to do with it now?

Read it.

Here’s a contest to get you going:

Take a picture of you reading it. Post the picture on Facebook (tagging the book as me), or email it to me at rdavidson.gu@gmail.com.

The goal is to take the most interesting, exotic, ironic, or iconic picture. I’ll be posting all entries on my blog at, http://ryanjdavidson.wordpress.com/.

What do you stand to gain?

The winner, as chosen by you, the people, and me, will get a signed and annotated copy of the book. Meaning I’ll explain in footnotes the background, inspiration and influences for each page of poetry. In addition the winner will also get a one year subscription to “The Ampersand Review”. The two runners up will get a free copy of the & review #5.

Why do it?

It’s a good excuse to go on vacation to get that perfect picture.

Where to buy it?

You can order it at your local independent bookstore, or online.

You’ve got until I make the trip back over the pond.

Deadline: August 19th

What once was lost…

July 12, 2010

So, I actually lost the url for this thing for a while. There were computer issues and I had to reformat everything. So thanks dad, for making me neurotically back things up. I found this today. I’m sure it’s been around for a while, but I’m awful at life sometimes. It’s not the most shining review, but it might be my favorite. Watch this space over the next few weeks, I have ideas brewing. Best.

April 30, 2010

I’m trying to be true to my word. Here then is this week’s posting. And I have news as well. The Frankenhoff Review, Glasgow Universities online journal for creative writing, picked up some of my work. Part of me thinks that title has to be slightly ironic. but who ever knows. I’m also getting really very good at doing things that aren’t related to my Ph.D. Like laundry, or tidying my room, or reading completely unrelated books and articles… Here’s hoping I can get back to work soon.

Why am I Awful?

April 21, 2010

I apparently, am pretty crap at keeping up with postings. I solemnly swear to do at least one posting a week, from now on. Just caught this review over the wire. I’m a fan of this, it’s honest, and like a package deal. They review all the books that Ampersand has published—and it looks cool.

Spectum Culture

March 23, 2010

I found this review on Spectrum Culture today. Since this whole thing is an endeavour to increase web presence lets call this the dumping sight for everything I find. But I would hate to overload a single posting, so in bits and pieces.

Pete’s Candy Store

March 15, 2010

I went to Pete’s Candy Store for a reading on Friday. Melissa Broder was reading with a few others. Although my opinion might be slightly jaded  I enjoyed her reading most of all. She read work from her book When You Say One Thing but Mean Your Mother. My buddy Evan Burton, of Cave Canem fame was there as well. Despite not being the best venue in the world (lots of ambient noise, a front room not very well separated from the stage, and people from the next act trying to push their way up onto the stage) the reading went well. Now that I’m thinking of it though, perhaps every reading should hand out a “roster”. So that you, or I as I’m poor, can look back and try to pick up the books after the fact… ah well. I’ll have money at some point.

Hello world!

February 25, 2010

In an effort to create more of a web-presence, and to steal a page out of the book of Joseph Riippi and Melissa Broder, this is my website. Last year my first collection of poetry “Under What Stars” was published by Ampersand Books. That’s an awful lot of links. Once you’ve clicked them all come back here and see what’s new.

The beautiful cover to my book designed by Ethan Miller.
